“Word by Word: The Secret Life of Dictionaries” by Kory Stamper
“Word by Word” is about how dictionaries are made, a process that sounds simple but is actually complicated, and sometimes controversial. Why are some words included in the dictionary and others not, who defines those words, and how are those definitions made.
The author, Kory Stamper, is a former associate editor for Merriam-Webster, probably the most well-known publisher of dictionaries, and she tells us about her experiences as a lexicographer for the company.

I have always been fascinated by words, especially their origins and usage. “Word by Word” reminds me of two podcasts on language that I follow, “The Allusionist” and “Lexicon Valley”. I recommend them all to readers like me who are also interested in how words and language developed and continue to evolve.
