What Are You Reading Now?
“Beyond Our Selves” by Catherine Marshall
“Beyond Our Selves” by Catherine Marshall
If you like true stories about real, imperfect people who have overcome adversities and challenges victoriously, and sometimes supernaturally, you will like this book.
Catherine Marshall was the wife of Peter Marshall, a well known preacher and pastor who was appointed as Chaplain of the United States Senate before he died at the age of 46 leaving her with a 9 year old son. She writes stories from her experience as a Pastor’s wife, a struggling author, a confidant of many people she got to know, then as a new wife to Leonard LeSourd, and mother to three step-children.

I like scrounging around in bookshops like Biblio, Books for Less and Booksale, for old books. This was published in 1961 and it is hard to recommend a hard to find book.
I’ve learned a lot from reading the book and even used some of the stories in the daily meditation I write and share in my blog, Facebook and Instagram. Some of the chapters are titled: “How to Find God’s Guidance”, “The Prayer that Makes Dreams Come True”, and “The Gospel of Healing”.
What I especially like about the book are the plenteous examples of real life stories that Catherine Marshall includes to illustrate each chapter. I’ve marked the book a lot and it was nice to find an index because I usually make my own index at the back of the book if I think I’ll want to find something again.
